My thought for the day: I never want to stop growing up. I never want there to be a day when I am suddenly a totally different person and I realize "Wow, I'm finally here. Now to get on with my adult life. Those teenage years sure were interesting."
No, I want to be continuously growing. I want to always feel like I'm in the middle of a journey, not reaching my destination. I want to always remain the person I am, even if I have a lot more experiences dragging behind me. I don't mean to say that I don't want to change. I mean to say that I don't want the graph of my life to have any discontinuity, be it Removable, Infinite, or Jump. Keeping it as a positive one-to-one function would be nice as well, but perhaps that's asking a bit much.


Sorry for the math references there.

  1. Some weeks feel like an oscillating discontinuity though. Also, good news, from talking with fellow graduates it seems that after college life generally seems as incomprehensible and daunting as before!

  3. The behavior of sin(1/x) as x approaches zero is a good example. Although continuous everywhere other than x=0, it just starts wobbling so fast that you cannot say that it has a limit as x approaches zero. You probably are not using the same book as my class, which I am going to tentatively say is a good thing for you.

  4. Ohhh. In that case, we did discuss it. We just didn't use the term "oscillating discontinuity."
