Eyeballs Are My Passion

"Being a woman is a terribly difficult task since it consists principally in dealing with men." - Joseph Conrad

This quote makes me want to share this with you: http://www.maureenjohnsonbooks.com/2010/09/22/sell-the-girls/
It's a blog post by Maureen Johnson, whom I've quoted on here before.

Also: "Eyeballs are my passion." - Nyssa

That story was great, but what was truly amazing was how well she reads aloud. I am impressed.

  1. Thank you for sharing. I have to admit I read a few Babysitter Club books as a child, and even remember the different levels of biological classifications using a mnemonic from one of them. "Kindly pass Claudia Oreos for goodness sake," kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, species.

I do think that I got/get more grief for that than a girl would/does for reading the male equivalent (Goosebumps, Hardy Boys?). I think this is another example of masculine being the social norm, and feminine getting relegated to being the exception, and usually devalued. This is, of course, sad, and bad.

Anyway, I was upset that Tamora Pierce got omitted from Maureen Johnson's list of wonderful women authors, but, thankfully, it would be hard to list all the wonderful women authors, and no reason her favorites and mine have to agree. Also, reading the BSC never hurt me, and, in fact, was quite enjoyable, other than the amount of time spent describing outfits.

  2. Goosebumps and Animorphs were some of my favorites in elementary school. I mostly read the same books as the boys in my class (except I read way more in general than most of them- haha), and never realized boy books vs. girl books was an issue for quite a long time.

Yes, Tamora Pierce is amazing. I never made it through Bloodhound, and I didn't read all of theProtector of the Small books just because my school library didn't have them, but I've really enjoyed everything by her I've gotten my hands on.

"Other than the amount of time spent describing outfits" <- lol
